Ethics & Sustainability

Fabric Standards
Merino wool sustainable production lies at the heart of everything we do at Mason William.
We are committed to creating garments that are safe for people, kind to animals, and gentle on the planet.
All Mason William Merino fabrics are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, and our merino wool is sourced from Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certified facilities — ensuring true sustainability and ethical production from farm to fabric.
The OEKO-TEX® certification guarantees that our materials are completely free from harmful chemicals and safe for human use.
To achieve this standard, every component of the fabric is tested and verified to contain no harmful levels of more than 100 substances known to impact human health.
The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) ensures that sheep are treated ethically and sustainably, in line with the internationally recognised Five Freedoms:
1.Freedom from hunger and thirst
2.Freedom from discomfort
3.Freedom from pain, injury, or disease
4.Freedom to express normal behaviour
5.Freedom from fear and distress
Environmental Sustainability
Merino wool is a renewable and biodegradable fibre — a naturally sustainable alternative to synthetic or resource-intensive materials.
At Mason William, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond fibre selection. We take a holistic approach to minimise our environmental impact throughout the entire lifecycle of our garments:
Low-impact Production
Wool garments consume significantly fewer resources. Compared to polyester, wool uses 18% less energy to produce 100 sweaters, and compared to cotton, it uses up to 70% less water.
Reduced Carbon Footprint
We reject fast fashion. Our focus is on timeless, high-quality garments made to last — helping reduce overconsumption and textile waste.
Eco-conscious Packaging
We’re committed to reducing our packaging footprint. Our shipping and retail packaging is recyclable, compostable, or biodegradable wherever possible. While some protective materials remain, we continue to seek better alternatives. Wool itself is made of keratin, making it 100% biodegradable — it won’t shed microplastics or contribute to landfill pollution.
Conscious Sourcing
We work exclusively with certified suppliers and traceable wool to ensure transparency, environmental care, and ethical integrity throughout our supply chain.
At Mason William, sustainability isn’t a marketing trend — it’s a long-term responsibility. From farm to finished garment, every decision we make is taken with care for the planet and future generations.
